Nelson Bay

Nelson Bay is the most commonly known suburb on the Tomaree Peninsula and remains the main centre of the area.

Nelson Bay is home to D’Abora Marina, the largest of the three marinas in the area and former Naval base throughout World War 2. Nelson Bay is also the boarding point for all Dolphin and Whale watching tours in the area as well as the ferry to Tea Gardens and is the tourist centre of the Port Stephens area. Nelson Bay also features a very popular golf course and bowling club.

Nelson Bay has a number distinct areas, Little Beach (predominately holiday units), Seabreeze Estate and Dutchies. There are a number of beaches in the suburb including Dutchies Beach, Bagnalls Beach, Little Beach and Nelson Bay Beach which adjoins the marina.

Nelson Bay has a wide variety of shopping to suit holiday makers as well as the majority of banks and a new large Woolworths store. Nelson Bay is also home to the majority of restaurants and cafes in the area.

At the 2011 Census, Nelson Bay had a population of 5,396 permanent residents.
